Welcome ! I am pleased to have the honor of instructing your child in his or her eight grade Language Arts course. Eight grade is a very  exciting time for the students as they begin to prepare for high school. I am excited that I can be a part of that experience. I have included below some important information that you will need to know about what to expect from this course.

Goal
The goal of this class is to develop awareness of language and to sharpen skills in critical reading and effective writing

Pre-AP Language Arts

The purpose of the Pre-Advanced Placement course is to give middle school students the opportunity to practice, at the appropriate level skills that will enable them to be successful in Advanced Placement classes at high school level. The middle school Pre AP class exposes students to the type of expectations and activities required by the AP program. Strong attention will be given to creativity and higher level thinking skills. My goal is to assist students at being task oriented, proficient readers who are able to set priorities within regard to time and responsibilities. Parental support also plays a key role in the success of students.

Be a Problem Solver -  Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate.

Any work that was assigned prior to an absence is due the day you return to class.  If a student is going to be absent several days their parents should call the main office to obtain work from the class. The students are given as many days to complete assignments missed as they are absent.

Special Projects
Throughout the year, students will be assigned various activities and projects. These will have specific guidelines which must be followed. All projects are to be turned in the date they are due. Failure to turn  them in  on time will result in 10 points being taken off each day it is late.
