EIGHTH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS
Mrs. Maronge

Welcome to Eighth Grade!  My name is Mrs. Maronge, and I am so excited to have you in my class! This is my seventh year at Washington.  I previously taught in Texas City and also in Mobile, Alabama.  I have a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education/Language Arts and Reading, grades 6-12.  I chose teaching as a profession because I have the desire in my heart to inspire young students to do well in school and in life.  I want you to be successful in my class and will strive to do whatever it takes to make that happen, but I also expect the same from each one of you.
We will spend the next few weeks getting to know each other and getting settled into an amazing, yet challenging, school year. We will be reading short stories, poetry, and novels from many genres. While sifting our way through all of this wonderful material, we will also become the authors  of many of these same forms of literature with our strong emphasis on writing. Throughout this year there will be plenty of class time dedicated to writing, reading, grammar, and vocabulary. You will be asked to respond in various ways including: directly to me, in speeches, through small group participation, and as a group leader. As you can see, there will be a lot of work packed into this year – and of course, FUN!

What you will need every day

1.   2 Pocket folder with prongs
2.   1 Spiral Notebook
3.   2 Pencils
4.   2 Pens (Black and Red)
